The VIRES range of Hi-Nox drills has been designed to be used on Austenitic stainless steel.
Many stainless steels are different and unpredictable metals to machine ie some described
as ‘free cutting’ can create extreme problems in work hardening, heat generation and swarf control. Hi-Nox has been introduced to overcome these.
Manufactured in high speed steel (M2) to jobber length (BS328 DIN338), with a special length short flute, it is designed to give a cutting or effective depth of hole up to 4 times diameter.
A helix angle of 38° gives greater swarf control, with a thinner than standard web at the point for accurate positioning.
Higher feed rates are achievable due to a rapid back taper for one diameter of the drill which increase to ‘greater than standard’ web dimensions.
The combination of point, web taper and flute shape provides unique geometry which curls and splits swarf and improves coolant access. The narrow chisel edge provides easier starting and uses less torque.
